Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Need important talks to prevent world war 3

Hsmilitarycom: Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said there needed to be discussions or talks to prevent World War III from happening. This was conveyed while the fighting in Ukraine was still going on.

"Is (World War) III possible? Maybe. Is it already underway? What does it look like? This is a topic that is widely discussed. Instead of talking about World (War) III, we better talk about how to prevent it," Zakharova said, quoted by the website of the Russian news agency TASS.

He stressed that for years Russia has indicated that international law and the UN should serve as a "safeguard jarring" against World War III. "Because they were created after World War II as a guarantee to prevent World War III, in one way or another, they are doing their duty," he said.

Zakharova also noted that for three to four years, Russia has noticed "the collective desire of the West to abolish international law and introduce a 'rules-based world order' instead". "This is very dangerous because it implies the dictatorship of one group of countries so that it threatens to disrupt the balance around the world, while making it impossible for other countries to pursue their interests," he said.

He stressed that every country has the right to sovereign foreign and domestic policy. "To defend legally their interests, to develop their economy, to defend humanitarian rights, for (their) own protection and security," Zakharova said.
