An F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter jet crashed and the pilot was pronounced dead

Hsmilitarycom: The U.S. Navy said an F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter jet crashed last Friday in the vicinity of Trona, 230 miles southeast of Lemoore Naval Air Station.


As a result of the accident, the pilot was killed, there were no casualties or other damage. The military department said that the pilot's name would be announced within 24 hours after his friend informed him of his death.

The incident happened at 2:30 p.m. local time. Firefighters were at the scene and the cause of the crash is being investigated.

Naval Air Station Lemoore is located in kings and Fresno counties, California. This is the newest and largest US Air Force base, which entered service in 1961.

In July 1998, NAS Lemoore was selected to host the Navy's newest F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter jet. Lemur Base houses the entire Naval combat force on the U.S. West Coast.

The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet multirole fighter jet entered service with the U.S. Navy in 1999, replacing the Grumman F-14 Tomcat, which retired in 2006.

It is a twin-engine, single-seat fighter jet equipped with the M61 20mm rotary cannon and capable of carrying air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles.
