U.S. will supply F-35s to Turkey in exchange for Turkish S-400s to Ukraine
Hsmilitarycom: U.S. sources said that if Turkey is willing to give S-400s purchased from Russia to Ukraine, the U.S. will give F-35 fighter jets to Turkey in return.
U.S. military experts do not believe it is possible for Turkey to send S-400 air defense systems to Ukraine.
Washington is considering options to return Turkey to its F-35 fighter purchase program, but only in exchange for Russian S-400s, allowing the U.S. to lift sanctions on Turkey for buying Russian S-400s.
However, American military experts believe that the chances of Turkey agreeing to such a deal are even lower than the initial requirements for returning anti-aircraft systems to Russia.
The S-400 issue has been part of a broader discussion between Sherman and Turkish officials about how the United States and its allies can help Ukraine defend itself from Russian aggression.
Turkish authorities have not commented on the U.S. proposal on the transfer of the S-400 system, which has been the subject of a long-running dispute between the two NATO allies.
Ankara, for its part, stated that it was forced to choose the S-400 because the allies did not provide it with similar weapons with satisfactory requirements.
However, some other NATO allies also have Russian or Soviet-made air defense systems, such as the S-300 and S-400.
