SU-57 hypersonic missile, capable of destroying enemies in the air, sea and land

Hsmilitarycom: The Russian Su-57 fifth-generation fighter has completed test flights with functional mock-ups of a new hypersonic missile, a source in the military-industrial complex told RIA Novosti.

“As part of the tests, an experienced Su-57 fighter performed several flights with functional weight and size mock-ups of the new Russian intra-fuselage hypersonic missile. Before that, mock-ups of the new product were tried on in the internal compartment of the fighter on the ground,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

He clarified that the mock-ups differ from regular ammunition in the absence of engines, rocket fuel and warheads, but fully correspond to them in size, shape and weight.

“At the same time, homing heads and electrical circuits are installed on the functional analogues to check the interface between the electronics of the ammunition and the on-board equipment of the carrier aircraft,” the source said.

The interlocutor noted that in the near future, the first throw tests of new missiles are planned using the Su-57.

The source did not disclose the characteristics of the ammunition, but noted that they are small. According to the interlocutor, these missiles provide maneuverable flight at hypersonic speed for a long time.

The new weapons belong to the air-to-surface class and are designed to destroy such priority targets as enemy air and missile defense facilities, radar stations, launchers of cruise and tactical ballistic missiles.

The Tactical Missiles Corporation (KTRV) was unable to provide RIA Novosti with a comment. The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) also did not respond to the request of the agency.

On February 9, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu , at an operational mobilization meeting with the leadership of the Armed Forces , announced that hypersonic missile systems of various bases would become the basis of the Russian non-nuclear deterrence forces.

Su-57 (formerly known as PAK FA) is a fifth-generation fighter designed to destroy all types of air, ground and surface targets.

Developed at the Sukhoi Design Bureau (part of the UAC of the Rostec State Corporation ), it made its first flight in 2010. The Su-57 has high maneuverability, the latest avionics system and low visibility (stealth technology).

The first serial contract for the supply of 76 Su-57 aircraft to the troops was signed as part of the Army forum in the summer of 2019.

The first vehicle under this agreement was handed over to the Armed Forces in December last year. Additional purchases of the latest fighters are planned.
