 However, the Navy made an extremely serious miscalculation by sending its submarine to the region amid anti-submarine exercises.

It is known that after the US Navy submarine was discovered by the crew of the Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft, data on the location of the submarine were transferred to the crew of the Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate, which used regular means against the submarine, although any other details on this account is missing.
